According to Paulo Rocha Cardoso, the entire space plan for the event was designed so that everything that will happen inside the venue is “an experience” and “has a message”, because the event celebrates 10 years of “many stories” and ” lots of adventures.”
“Initially we characterized the event with the motto ‘I just want to be a superhero’ [‘Eu só quero ser um super-herói’]. When we were kids, we all wanted to be Spider-Man, we all wanted to be Batman, we all wanted to be the Ninja Turtles and then we grew up, but we often took the values and principles of these same characters into our daily lives. day,” he said.
For the executive director of Comic Con Portugal, this event was always “challenging”.
With the motto of “Be Whatever You Want”, Comic Con starts on Thursday at 12:00, lasting until March 24th.
According to the event director, the poster is not yet closed, highlighting the presence of actors such as Raymond Lee, Anna Shaffer, Evanna Linch, Ed Westwick, André Lamoglia, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo or even Finn Jones.
When asked by Lusa about the budget for this edition, Paulo Rocha Cardoso declined to talk about concrete values.
Until Sunday, Comic Con will feature panels on ‘esports’, video games, cinema, television, comics and other genres included in the so-called ‘pop’ culture.
In addition to actors, multiple artists such as Miguelanxo Prado, Daniel Henriques, André Lima Araújo, Stan Sakai or Teresa Valero will be in Matosinhos, as well as writers such as Stacey Halls, Samantha Shannon, Lucy Angel, AR Ruano, among many others.
Comic Con Portugal took place for the first time in 2013, at Exponor, in Matosinhos, where the first four editions took place.
After signing a protocol with the Oeiras City Council, the convention took place in 2018 on Passeio Marítimo de Algés. The protocol would be for three editions (2018, 2019 and 2020) and provided for the involvement, on the part of the municipality, of financial and logistical support of 330 thousand euros per edition.
In 2020, the first year of the covid-19 pandemic, instead of a physical edition, the organization decided to hold an online and free event. In 2021 and 2022, the event took place in Lisbon, without taking place in 2023.
