The Government announced yesterday, in its last Council of Ministers, the forecast that, by the end of the year, construction or renovation work on 40 university residences will be completed. However, by the end of 2024 – according to information collected by DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS – only the renewal of the university residence at the Escola Superior de Enfermagem (ESENFC) is planned in the district of Coimbra, while the National Plan for Accommodation in the Higher Education (PNAES) includes the requalification of 11 residences by 2026.
According to the various higher education institutions and Comboios de Portugal (CP) – which will also have a space that will be a residence in the future – only the ESENFC residence will be held this year.
According to the institution, the renovation of the residence “should be completed by the end of November this year”.
Initially, it was announced that the work would be completed in the 2023/2024 semester, but “the company that was carrying it out abandoned the work”, which led to the deadline being rescheduled.
On the other hand, a CP source, which will make the former operational dormitory in Coimbra a residence, confirmed to DIÁRIO AS BEIRAS that “the space is expected to be completed in 2025”.
