Other beaches east of Quarteira are also at risk

-

Since the Quarteira jetties were built, precisely so that the strongest sea waves would not cause harmful effects in the town, the sea has always persisted in conquering space to the east, mainly on the beaches of Forte Novo, Loulé Velho, Trafal, Dunas Douradas and Vale do Lobo.

The Vale do Lobo project, to counter the advances of the sea, worked with official entities and managed to carry out a huge intervention to replace the sand next to ‘his’ beachhaving guaranteed the preservation of the beach against erosion for some years now.

It even emerged, on the part of the owner of Vale do Lobo, Sander van Gelder, the idea (based on an environmental impact study) to build an island in front of the Vale do Lobo development which, supposedly, would have the ‘mission’ of neutralizing the effects of the strong waves on that tourist resort (where the swimming pool, closest to the shore has been threatened) that is felt in that area, especially in winter.

Others interventions to replace the sand on the beaches between Quinta do Lago / Vale do Lobo and Quarteira, have been carried outperiodically, but an onslaught of the sea as pronounced as the one that has been occurring this year, had not yet been recorded.

O diariOnline South Region addressed requests for clarification to official entities, namely the CCDR of the Algarve / ARH and the Municipal Council of Loulé, and also to the Parish Council of Quarteira to inform that steps were taken to preserve the beaches to the east of Quarteira, and especially regarding this Forte Novo beach, one of the most frequented in the region during the summer.
