Discover what Narnia was like during the 15 years that Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia Pevensie ruled the country
In 2005, Disney released “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, the first adaptation of the famous book franchise created by the Irish author CS Lewis. During the film, we follow Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia, four brothers who are directly transported to a new world after entering a wardrobe.
At the end of the production, after finally managing to defeat the White Witch with the help of the powerful lion Aslan, the brothers are crowned great kings of Narnia, where they rule for around 15 years. However, the film only shows the public the moment when the Pevensies return to England, but does not explain what happened during the period in which the four remained on the throne.
The Golden Age
In the books, it is explained that the 15 years in which Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia ruled were known as the “Golden Years of Narnia”, where each brother played his role wisely.
Peter, as the great king, won the famous War of Ettin Cliff, where Northern Giants were threatening the lives of the Narnians. With this achievement, the eldest Pevensie ensured that these creatures would no longer invade Narnia, keeping his people safe.
While Pedro was still in battle, in 1014, Susana, who was often courted by different princes, was proposed to by Prince Rabadash, of Calormânia, and decided to visit the kingdom accompanied by Edmund to consider the proposal.
Upon arriving there, the brothers discovered that Rabadash was not a very pleasant person, being an extremely arrogant leader and with thoughts that went completely against what Susana believed. Upon discovering the prince’s true personality, the Pevensies also came to the conclusion that, if the eldest rejected the request, they would be kept hostage, taking into account that Calormenes and Narnians did not maintain a good relationship.
In this way, Susana and Edmundo create a plan to escape Calormânia, and manage to return to the castle of Cair Paravel. However, when Rabadash notices the escape, he sends his army to Archeland, a kingdom neighboring Narnia and an ally of the Narnians.
The youngest, Lúcia and Edmundo, who were also mainly responsible for leading the armies that wiped out the White Witch’s last supporters after the villain’s defeat, go to the allied kingdom alongside her troops to help defend the invasion, emerging victorious from the battle again.
During this period when Lúcia, Edmundo and Pedro were at war, Susana remained in Narnia to govern the country as she was not very experienced in battles, but had great diplomacy skills.
The following year, in 1015, on a certain day, Mr. Tumnus informed his brothers that a white deer had been seen in the region. The animal in question would be the same animal from an ancient Narnian legend where it said that the person who captured it could have all their wishes fulfilled.
With that, Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia organize an expedition to go in search of the deer. At a certain point, the four end up distancing themselves from the soldiers and encounter the animal, which takes them to a part of the forest that makes it impossible for horses to pass through.
While following the path on foot, the Pevensies lose sight of the animal, but come face to face with the lamppost — the same one they found when they arrived in Narnia for the first time. Upon encountering the object, the brothers begin to remember their past life and, while walking, they end up accidentally returning to the real world.
