Xiaomi will not be left behind in the race and is preparing to adopt 5.5G communications in Chinese territory now.

But the news doesn’t stop there. A new patent from the Chinese brand suggests that satellite communications could reach its first SU7 electric vehicle.

According to leaker Digital Chat Station, Xiaomi intends to bring 5.5G communications to its smartphones through an Over-The-Air (OTA) update.

The same leaker says that the models chosen for this update will be those equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. And everything seems to be going well, as the operator China Mobile has already carried out tests with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The model managed to reach speeds of up to 5132 Mbps.

According to the information released so far, 5.5G communications will bring significant improvements. They will allow tenfold increases in current speeds, as well as reduced latency and better network reliability compared to the previous standard.

But it won’t just be smartphones with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-range processor that will be compatible with the new communications standard. Apparently, models equipped with the Dimensity 9300 will also be eligible for this new mobile communications standard.

Other news reports on Xiaomi’s plans for its new line of electric vehicles. A patent application from the Chinese brand was detected that includes vehicle-satellite communication technology.

This technology can provide optimized navigation and also responsiveness in the event of an emergency – similar to what already happens with smartphones from various brands, Xiaomi included.

Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether this technology will soon reach the SU7 models in the form of an update or whether it will be something to be used in future iterations of the brand’s already very successful electric vehicle.
