Warning for spoilers for Darth Vader #45!

In the most recent editions of titles Star Wars published by Marvel, the plot has been set between the final moments of The Empire Strikes Back and the confrontation between Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi. The comics have further detailed how the Dark Lord had been trying to accumulate power to defeat Darth Sidious, and how a visit to an ancient Jedi world shook Anakin after he felt Luke’s presence.

According to the plots shown in the comics, after several traps by Palpatine and battles with evil droids and the viral threat called Scourge, Vader, despite being weakened, tried to increase his power to face his master. However, the connection with Luke and the desire to make him an ally began to unbalance the Dark Lord’s Force.

And, at a specific moment, the comic confirmed why he arrived weaker and without his full potential in the final battle seen in Return of the Jedi.

Why was he weak?

In Darth Vader #45, recently released, the Sith Lord continues to accumulate all kinds of new powers in an attempt to overthrow his master, Emperor Palpatine. Accompanied by the extremist group Imperial Schism, whose members also want to see Palpatine’s chaos removed from the Empire, Vader and his allies visit the ancient Jedi world of Tython to claim a source of kyberite — the Force-amplifying mineral that is present in the kyber crystals used. in lightsabers.

At a certain point in the plot, members of the Imperial Schism question Vader, and the former governor Tauntaza, to whom the Dark Lord seeks support, sees up close how the villain exposes his uncertainty and fragility at this moment in time. Skywalker Saga.

Tauntaza lost her position and power after Darth Vader accused her of acting in collusion with the crime syndicate Red Dawn (or Crimson Dawn). He dismantled his operations in previous editions, but, to the former governor’s surprise, the villain recently claimed an experimental weapon that was part of his plans.

This change of heart about the device, and the doubts about overthrowing his master, continuing his master plan for order in the galaxy and confronting/conquering Luke left the already shaken Vader without the focus and mental, physical and emotional balance to face Palpatine and his child simultaneously.

The comics suggest that, after witnessing his son’s confession in the kyberite fountain on Tython, Vader apparently found his purpose, learning that Luke came to question whether he should have rejected his father in The Empire Strikes Back.

In other words, Anakin, although he understood this only after saving his son when Palpatine was about to win, lost his focus and concentration when he hesitated between his primary mission of bringing order to the galaxy or destroying his master; when, in fact, his main plan became the search for Luke—just when it would have left him in his most fragile state in all of Skywalker Saga.
